We all have goals. We all have visions. There are unfortunately many reasons we don’t go on to achieve many of these things. Through my years as a coach and also an athlete, there is one that stands out most to why people don’t become who they want to be or achieve what they set out to. People don’t already have the belief and the understanding that they are already who they want to be and that they can actually have what they set out to. The difference between the successful people and those that fail seems to be that the successful people already see themselves as great, they already know they can achieve what they hope to, it's simply a matter of doing it or showing others.
"As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he"- Proverbs 23:7
Do you believe this? It actually doesn’t matter if you do or not, because it is true. I’ve got 16 years of experience of watching people in sport, business and life that tell me and show this is true directly. So how can this be you? How can you have that trust? How can you see your own greatness?
Those that have it, don’t just pretend. They’ve earned it. Actions over intentions, remember that phrase? Well you get a chance every single day to prove who you are, to exactly who matters most, you. Your habits, your thoughts, your visions, your effort, your attitude all impact your character and perception of who you are and essentially you will become. Each day we have a chance to “bank'' positive actions and thoughts to build trust in ourself for the future. There will be moments of doubt, you will be tested, you will have to rise up to the occasion and without the appropriate build up, you’ll never know if you can actually trust yourself or not.
You do have the potential to shift your perception, but it takes daily hard right choices over easy wrong choices. Over time, these reps, and these actions will show you what you are capable of. These actions will help you build trust in your ability to rise to the occasion, to step up when the pressure is at its apex and ultimately change how you perceive yourself. When these things align you give yourself permission to dream of what you can be and you can trust and believe you will be it.
It’s easier said than done, but you’ve got a perspective for it now. You truly must believe it if you hope to achieve it.
